Are we still living in poverty in 2013?

Did you know that 800,000 jobs were lost in a month before President Obama took place in office in
2009 and that the rate of Americans living below the poverty guideline rose from 12.3% in 2006 to 15% in 2010? Are we still living in poverty in 2013?

Many people think America as the richest country to live in until they get here and notice the difference. What they see on television is not always realistic.

In 2012 during the presidential election, Senator Romney and his administration wanted to push people out of poverty into middle class and then increase their taxes. (That sounds a little bit too fishy to me). I questioned why must we push them out of poverty to middle class and then raise their taxes? Wouldn’t that drop them back to where they started off at.

President Obama argued on cutting taxes and making sure the millionaires aren’t paying low taxes but, how much taxes are they are supposed to pay? President Obama accomplished a lot in his four years of office from 2009-2012 with the equality and welfare, economy and tax reform and even foreign policy during this past elections.

Most college students voted  for President Obama not only because of his race or ethnicity, but because he is a man of his word. When he promised American families that he would end the war in Iraq and bring the troops home, find Bin Laden, doubling the funding for Pell Grants to make college affordable to the millions of families, he did!

In the next four years, Americans are looking up to President Obama and his office in achieving more
of his goals  he has set for American families. Reducing the poverty rate, creating more jobs and
having a safer and richer America. Congratulations and good luck to President Obama!

Signed,Alimatu S. Asumah, Senator
