The Boy Who Wanted to Make a Difference

There was a young man growing up in the lower eastside of Buffalo, NY. He was almost

finished completing high school and couldn’t wait to be in college. He felt as though college

brought maturity, new horizons and most importantly, freedom. As the school year drew to an end,

the acceptance letters became to pour in, each starting with “Congratulations”! The young man

was so excited that all his hard work and dedication to his academics and extracurricular

activities had finally paid off. With so many options to choose from, the young man had tough

decisions to make, would he choose a social campus or a campus focused more on academics?

He chose Buffalo State , a well rounded campus that incorporates academics into

their on campus organizations. The campus from day one welcomed him with open arms, they

provided tours during orientation week; just in case you were unable to attend one over the

summer. The chefs prepared an international dish for lunch, which illustrated the diversity of the

campus. The young man was fortunate enough to get involved with the “Leaders in Training”

Learning Community; which focused on molding emerging leaders. This program sent students

on trips to visit Susan B. Anthony and Fredrick Douglas grave site, two individuals who stood up

for a positive change and lead the change for equality among the nation. In addition, students

were able to volunteer their time to help out at varies non-profit organizations; such as The Red

Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and more.

For this young man, that was only the beginning; the laying of the foundation. Ever since

taking U.S Government his junior year in high school, the young man knew in his heart that he

wanted to be a part of the United State Government
His initial response as to why he wanted tto
join the government because “He felt like the government was taking over the world and he

didn’t want to be left out.” However, with many more years of knowledge and teaching, he

understands that the U.S Government is one of the essential nations that holds the world

together; preventing international anarchy. With so much going on at one time, the young man

figured the fast pace of the Capital building was just where he belongs. With that being said,

USG Senate was the perfect place to gain experience and share his ideas with people who may

allocate similar interest with him. Watch out, I see this young man making a difference in

politics in the years to come!
