After
his visit to Ghana on March 5th 2013, American multi talented star
Chris
Brown stated on BET 106 and Park that the Azonto dance came
from
Nigeria and WizKid the up coming singer is the one who made it up.
Azonto
Ghanaian ghetto slang for "ugly" or "bush". Along it’s
meaning
comes
with dance moves that have its origin. It is more of an expressive
style
of dancing whereby dancer expresses what he/she does or tries
to
communicate through the dance moves he/she makes. It has been
in
existence for a while in but was recently popularized by Ghanaian
musician
Gazmilla came out with his son Aboodatoa and rapper Sarkodie
in
his hit song "You go kill me".
Ghana
is the land of rhythm and music. In everything we do music is
involved.
Celebrations of birth or death we are singing and dancing the
music
is in us. Even in the market place sellers are singing "ice water ooo
2cedis"
Ghanaians love music and dancing. It all started with ET Mensah
laying
his heart out in music. Highlife was introduced to the colonial whites
that
settled in Ghana and incorporated it to their nightclub music and
added
instruments.
The
drums, comes from the forest where the roots of music started with
Osibisi
and CK Man. Today Ghana music has expanded from highlife to
hiplife,
which started with Reggie Rockstone who incorporated American
hip-hop
to highlife. With Azonto being, the new trend in the Ghanaian
music
system is making it way all over the world now. Everywhere you
go
you see people doing and singing Azonto and we all know once a
Ghanaian
music is playing we don't want to turn it off.
Signed, Senator Alimatu Asumah
