Fear of Graduation

Senior year of college and graduation on May 18th are quickly approaching, I have found myself as well as many of my fellow graduating seniors having the “what’s next” conversation. Of course, graduation is something that we all have, or are looking forward to since the beginning of freshman year; and for many of us the years have seemed to have flown by. With Graduation approaching, our time here at Buffalo State is coming to an end. It is only natural that a certain amount of anxiety may arise in some of us and in others a great amount of excitement, or even a little bit of both.
Graduating from college is a great achievement, however, the comfort of knowing that this is where you are day after day with the same people you have been with, doing things that you enjoy like attending various events on campus, as well as the obvious responsibilities of school like tests and homework have given us a sense of security in our lives. The realization that this is all coming to an end soon and that we will have to take that leap out into the real world, which can be intimidating. Whether it be that we are continuing our education, or going off to find a job, or maybe we have no idea of what is next, the experiences of Undergrad will be behind us.
For others, we may be counting down the days with intense anxiety for it all to be over with. In some cases the next experiences in life after graduation may be more exciting than the memories and thoughts of what will be left behind.
Nevertheless, however we may be feeling, the inevitable will be here sooner than we know and whether we have fear or excitement, the next step is out there waiting for us to take it. The question of course “what’s next?” may have been answered, or may still be lingering in the balance. Whatever, the circumstance, it will be here before any of us know it; whether you are a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior. So make each day count, and make memories here that you can carry with you forever.

Signed, Sherrell Pope, Senator
